5 DIY Organic Skincare Treatments for a Healthy, Glowing Skin

Natural, sustainable, and budget-friendly beauty fixes with ingredients readily available from your local organic market

Creating a no-fuss, effective, and organic skincare routine can be daunting to some, especially if you’re just starting to embrace the green lifestyle. There’s the challenge of sourcing for sustainable ingredients, the question of whether it’ll work on your skin type or not, and the preparation time it demands from your already full schedule.

However, adapting an all-natural and sustainable skincare routine is worth all the ‘fuss’. Not only is it Earth friendly, but it does bring a number of amazing benefits for your skin and body. For starters, it reduces inflammation as the products are formulated sans chemicals and artificial fragrances, so you can bid redness and irritation goodbye. Similarly, organic skincare products wouldn’t hurt your internal organs as they don’t contain nasties that wreak havoc to your body. And lastly, they’re gentle enough for atopic skin, or those who have extremely sensitive skin.

Below are 5 of our favorite DIY natural skincare concoctions that you, too, can easily recreate in the comfort of your own home.

  • Gentle facial cleanser for all skin types

Removing makeup, pollution, and grime is an essential step in our skincare routine to maintain an even skin tone. Castile soap is effective in cleansing the skin minus toxins, plus it doesn’t strip the skin off of its natural oils. It’s also packed with anti-inflammatory compounds, which treats eczema and psoriasis.

To recreate this DIY face wash, you need ¼ cup of liquid castile soap, 2 teaspoons of organic almond oil, 8 drops of Frankincense essential oil, and 8 drops of Lavender essential oil. Mix everything together, and add ¾ cup of distilled water. Shake well and use as you would your regular facial cleanser.

    • Glow-inducing sugar face scrub

As nature’s humectant, sugar draws moisture back to the skin, and locks it in. Hence, it’s common to spot sugar in the ingredients list of products aimed at polishing the skin to perfection, and rehydrating it.

To create your own gentle sugar face scrub, you’ll need ½ cup of brown sugar, 3 tablespoons of organic honey, and 2 tablespoons of your preferred oil. Blend all the ingredients together, and spread the paste on a clean face and neck. You may leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes, then rinse with water. You may use the same blend to gently scrub your body.

      • Pore-refining tea leaves toner

Tea is a hero ingredient in most anti-acne products as it is powered by polyphenols. It’s a great antibacterial ingredient that’s beneficial in treating acne and unclogging pores, therefore minimizing their appearance, and shrinking them in the long run.

For a DIY tea leaves toner, you’d need 1 teaspoon peppermint tea leaves, 4 teaspoons white tea leaves, ½ cup of distilled water, and 2 drops of lavender oil. Mix all ingredients together in a French press, and leave for 10 minutes. Transfer the mixture to a glass container to cool down, then mix with aloe vera gel for added moisture.

        • Anti-aging papaya face pack

Papaya isn’t only good to eat, but it’s packed with antioxidants, which guards the skin against free radicals. It’s also rich in lycopene, and vitamins A, B, and C that aid in battling against premature aging, minimizing fine lines, and improves skin elasticity to maintain that glowing, youthful skin.

To prepare your own papaya facial mask, blend half of a fresh papaya and mix with 1 tablespoon of Greek yogurt, white tea, and fresh lemon juice. Add in an organic egg to the mixture, and blend until it forms a thick paste. Apply to a clean face, and leave it on for about 30 minutes before washing it off.

          • Rosehip seed oil glow serum

Rosehip seed oil is known for its hydrating properties. It boosts collagen formation to maintain skin firmness, and brightens the skin.

For a DIY glow serum, mix 1 oz rosehip seed oil, 5 drops of Frankincense essential oil, 5 drops of Lavender essential oil, and 2 drops of geranium essential oil. Add all the essential oils in a glass dropper bottle, then fill it in with rosehip seed oil. Use it day and night after cleansing and toning your face.
